Rug hooking is an easy art to learn and enjoy! The actual process of rug hooking is simply a matter of pulling narrow strips of wool fabric through a foundation to create loops to form a design. The easy technique can produce a wide range of designs from primitive to intricate; folk art to contemporary.

The easiest way to begin rug hooking is to take an introductory rug hooking class. Classes are offered at AngelGirl: A Rug Hooking Studio. AngelGirl has two teaching classroom studios enabling the interested rug hooker to come in at their own convenience for one-on-one teaching instruction sessions.

The beginning student's first project is to complete a 9-inch trivet (design of their choice). The class includes technique instruction and finishing direction procedures, a kit of their choice, a selection of hooks to choice from, and the use of a classroom rug-hooking in-store frame. The student spends approximately three hours in the studio while achieving a hooking comfort level. The student is sent on their way and returns for the second class at their convenience. The second class instruction includes blocking, wool yarn wrapping, and binding tape hand sewing.

If an interested rug hooker is not able to come to Stillwater for a class, an introductory rug hooking class DVD is in the processing stage. The student can then learn rug hooking in the convenience of their own home. Please call for details and prices at 1-866-HOOK-RUG.
